Similar to national trends, growth in the industrial market of western Virginia and Roanoke has been steady but not outstanding over the past 10 years.
The region has maintained very good employment numbers with unemployment historically less than 3%. Much of the growth in new jobs has been in the service sector including the medical, biotechnology, and high-technology fields, with some job growth in the manufacturing sector.
